Students from Spain, Netherlands and Portugal at summer semester at VERN'
From the last group of Erasmus students who’ve been studying this summer semester at VERN’, this time we present you four interesting students from Spain, Netherlands and Portugal. What attracted them to Zagreb, how they decided to study at VERN’ and which courses have they attended, read below.
Helena Rocha, Portugal
Even though Zagreb has a lot of faculties, VERN' seemed to me as the best choice. I was really surprised with your courses – they are very dynamic i productive, not so based on heavy theory and lot of papers as at my home university. Besides that, your lecturers are really good and helpful. I decided to come to Croatia because it's a really nice country and an amazing tourist destination and as a student of Tourism Management I wanted to learn more about it. The Erasmus programme is a great opportunity to live in a different country, learn about new cultures and develop communication and language skills. Good opportunity for personal and professional growth.
Helder Palma, Portugal
I like the fact that courses at VERN' are held separately. For instance, at my home university, if I have six courses in semester, they will all be held during the entire semester. At VERN', I've attended courses by “3+3” model and that's great, because it allows me to put more effort on each course. Erasmus is a lifetime experience that should be mandatory in some study programms, like tourism, international relations and political sciences. Why Croatia? Well, the choice was for Croatia, because, as a tourism student, I found a lot of similarities between Portuguese and Croatian tourism.
Francisco José Ramos Jiménez, Spain
My decision for Croatia was very spontaneous. I was seeing some pictures on the internet about landscapes and one of those pictures appeared "Plitvice Lakes". I didn’t know where could that place be, but I knew I definitely want to go there. I checked instantly if there were any available places to do my Erasmus in Croatia and the answer was yes. I had really good moments in Croatia and it would be very difficult to choose what the best moment was. The nature in Croatia is amazing. We’ve been to Risnjak, Paklenica, Plitvice lakes, Krka and others. Thanks to the Erasmus programme students get a unique opportunity to learn another language, keep a conversation with people from all over the world, learn about the culture in a welcoming country and discover new cities.
Yordi Smit, Netherlands
Zagreb is a very beautiful and alive city and there is always something you can do to enjoy your stay. I think it's something that keeps many students busy and satisfied in Zagreb. For me, you city seems like a hidden diamond within Europe. Besides, I came here with an open mind and decided not to do too much pre-research in order to enjoy the experience for the most. I went to a road trip through Balkan Countries with other colleagues, so I can say that the last month surely stands out as one of the best in this year.
