DESCRIPTIONT OF COURSE CONTENT: The course offers an up-to-date insight into the main political processes, policies and institutions of European Union, whilst also focusing on the current Eurozone crisis and its political, economic and institutional consequences for Croatia, Europe and the rest of the world. It provides students with a comprehensive introduction to the economic implications of European integration for citizens and businesses with special emphasis on the situation in Croatia now and the expectations after the accession to the EU.

OUTCOMES:   After attending the course the students will have:

  • an advanced and up-to-date familiarity with the fundamental parameters of the European integration, its actors and main policies
  • an understanding of the 'EU maze' and practical aspects of Croatia's membership in the EU
  • an insight to the basic techniques of negotiation, advocating and lobbying in the EU
  • an overview of the costs and benefits of enlargement, agricultural, cohesion, monetary and other major EU policies
  • an understanding of the Eurozone debt crisis and its impact on the EU member states and Croatia
  • a critical understanding of the influence of European economic integrations on Croatia

TEACHING METHODOLOGIES: Critically analysis of the European integration in the wider political and economic context; Discussions on related issues.
